This collection includes letters and papers of the Roberts and French families. Included is a record of the disownment of Asa Roberts from the Orthodox meeting in 1828, presumably due to his Hicksite beliefs,and a letter from John Mott to Josiah Mott, regarding Quaker testimony and issues of the Hicksite separation. Also included are wills and deeds of Robert French and other members of the family, as well as maps and charts of their properties in Burlington County, NJ.

Josiah Roberts was a New Jersey Quaker, born in 1783 to Joseph and Susannah (Cole) Roberts. In 1808, he married Mary French, the daughter of Robert French. Robert French was a Quaker from southern New Jersey. He was born the 21st of the 5th month, 1749, to Robert French and Hannah Cattle. In 1785, French married Hannah Warrington, daughter of Thomas Warrington, and the couple had one daughter named Mary born in 1786. Hannah died the same year Mary was born. In 1803, French remarried to Elizabeth Stokes. He was a member of Chester Monthly Meeting and Evesham Monthly Meeting, and served as an Elder. French died on the 10th of the 2nd month of 1811, i...
